What it is

Ceramic PCBs for the highest thermal demands

When a metal-core board can no longer move heat fast enough, the next step is ceramic. A ceramic LED PCB replaces the polymer dielectric — the biggest thermal bottleneck in most boards — with a ceramic substrate that conducts heat directly, giving the lowest thermal resistance available in a printed board.

We work with alumina (Al2O3) for strong, cost-effective performance and aluminum nitride (AlN) where conductivity is critical. Ceramic also closely matches the thermal expansion of LED chips, reducing solder-joint stress over thousands of cycles. It is the substrate of choice for the most demanding high-power, UVC and COB applications.

How it works

Removing the dielectric bottleneck

In most boards the polymer dielectric is the largest controllable thermal resistance. Ceramic removes that layer entirely — heat travels straight from the die through the substrate, which is why ceramic carries the hottest, densest LED designs.

  • Direct conduction — no polymer dielectric in the path.
  • AlN performance — up to 230 W/m·K.
  • CTE match — longer life across thermal cycles.
  • DPC / DBC — fine patterns or high current.
  • Inert & stable — moisture and high-temp resistant.

Ceramic LED PCB — FAQ

Choose ceramic when an aluminum MCPCB can no longer keep junction temperature low enough — typically very high power density, UVC, lasers or COB engines. Ceramic removes the polymer dielectric bottleneck and conducts heat directly.

Alumina (Al2O3) offers ~24–28 W/m·K at moderate cost and suits most high-power work. Aluminum nitride (AlN) reaches 170–230 W/m·K for the most extreme thermal demands, at a higher price.

Thick film on ceramic plus DPC and DBC copper processes, allowing fine conductor patterns and high current capacity depending on the design.

Yes — ceramic's thermal expansion closely matches the LED die, lowering solder-joint stress across cycles and extending field life. It also resists high temperature and moisture.

Yes — turnkey assembly on ceramic substrates including sourcing and inspection. See LED PCB assembly.
