What it is

PCBs for individually addressable LEDs

An addressable LED PCB uses LEDs with a driver chip built into each package — WS2812B, WS2811, SK6812 and similar — chained on one data line so every pixel can be set independently. They are the basis of pixel strips, rings, signs and matrices.

The board is really a signal-and-power problem: clean data routing, per-LED decoupling, a solid ground plane and power that doesn't sag along the chain. Get those right and the display is rock-solid. We build addressable boards rigid, on flexible film, or as matrices — and assemble them through our capabilities.

Design tips

WS2812 / SK6812 layout that just works

Decouple every LED

Place a ≈100 nF capacitor at each LED's supply pin to absorb switching noise and keep colours stable.

Route data straight

Run the data line in a straight path from the controller to the first LED — no sharp bends or stubs — to preserve signal integrity.

Solid ground plane

Give the chain a low-impedance ground plane and a single shared ground reference.

Size power traces

Use power traces ≥0.5 mm (wider for long chains) to carry the full current without drop.

Add a level shifter

Shift a 3.3 V MCU data signal up to 5 V at the first LED for reliable data.

Plan power injection

Inject power at intervals (and both ends) on long chains so later pixels stay bright.

Why PCBSync

Pixel boards that don't glitch

Addressable failures are almost always signal or power. We give DFM feedback on data routing, decoupling, ground and power injection, build rigid or flexible boards, and test before shipment — AOI and electrical checks through our PCB laboratory.

  • Clean data — straight routing, level shifting.
  • Per-LED decoupling — stable colour, low noise.
  • Solid power — sized traces, injection points.
  • Flex or rigid — strips, rings, matrices.
  • Turnkey — sourcing & assembly.

Addressable LED PCB — FAQ

It is a board built around integrated-driver RGB LEDs — like WS2812B, WS2811 or SK6812 — where each LED has a tiny controller inside and is chained on a single data line, so every pixel is individually controllable. Power is usually 5 V, around 60 mA per RGB LED at full white.

Put a decoupling capacitor (≈100 nF) at each LED's supply pin, route the data line in a straight path from the controller to the first LED with no sharp bends, use a solid ground plane, and make power traces at least 0.5 mm wide. Keep a clean shared ground reference.

Inject power at intervals along the chain (and at both ends) so later pixels don't dim, size the power traces/copper for the total current, and keep the supply solid. For long runs, plan power injection points into the board from the start.

Often yes — many addressable LEDs expect a 5 V data signal, so a 3.3 V microcontroller benefits from a level shifter on the data line to the first LED for reliable, glitch-free data.

WS2812B, WS2811, SK6812 (including RGBW) and clocked types like APA102 / SK9822, in rigid, flexible or matrix form. Send your pixel count and layout for a quote, or see LED PCB assembly for turnkey build.
